Samsung secures massive Meta ASIC order
Samsung Electronics is becoming a core production base for self-developed AI chips (ASIC) by global tech giants (including Tesla, Anthropic, and Meta), with its long-term order backlog expected to approach 50 trillion won (approximately 221.5 billion yuan).
Samsung lands 10 trillion won Meta foundry order
According to industry sources, Meta is collaborating with Samsung Foundry to advance the design and production of next-generation ASICs worth over 10 trillion won (approximately 44.3 billion yuan).
The first and second generations of Meta's self-developed AI accelerator "MITA" were mass-produced by TSMC, but starting with the third generation launched this year, the company has chosen Samsung Foundry as its partner. It is reported that Meta's third-generation MTIA plans to adopt Samsung Foundry's leading 2-nanometer process for large-scale mass production in batches of hundreds of thousands. Currently, Meta is evaluating plans to enter the "cloud service" business, which involves leasing its AI computing infrastructure to external companies, with MTIA expected to serve as the core chip for this business. Meta's goal is to build data centers with a total installed capacity of 5 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2030, so it cannot rely solely on external chips. To this end, Meta plans to establish an ultra-fast development system, launching a new generation of chips every six months, and upgrading from the third to the fifth generation of chips next year.
