[Japanese Automobile Association also issues warning: Received notice that chip delivery cannot be guaranteed]
Following automobile associations in Europe and the US, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) stated on Thursday that it has received a notice from a Dutch semiconductor manufacturer indicating that chip delivery may not be guaranteed. The association noted in a statement on its official website that the affected chips are key components of electronic control units, and this situation may have a severe impact on the global production of member companies.
JAMA's member companies include well-known Japanese automakers such as Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Subaru. Although the notice did not specify which Dutch semiconductor company was involved, given recent developments and industry conditions, it is highly likely to refer to Nexperia.
On Wednesday, German automotive giant Volkswagen also stated that some of its vehicles use Nexperia components. While production is currently unaffected, the possibility of disruptions due to unforeseen events in the short term cannot be ruled out.
Volkswagen further noted that production of its Golf and Tiguan models will be suspended this Friday and will resume next week.
