I've been doing this for over two years and find that there are plenty of opportunities every year. There's really no need to gamble on earnings.
If my holdings surge after earnings, I'll trim a portion.
If they drop significantly after earnings, I'll buy some depending on the situation.
Having both positions and cash is already a mutual hedging strategy.
I'll wait until August.
