In terms of news, the three major memory original equipment manufacturers—Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix—have successively halted or significantly scaled back their in-house design and R&D projects for CXL controllers, shifting to an outsourcing model. They are concerned that aggressively marketing self-developed high-end CXL controller chips in the market could instead cannibalize their demand for general-purpose DRAM. Specifically, Micron terminated its proprietary CXL controller R&D project and switched to PrimeMars' solution. Recently, SK Hynix officially notified its main partners that it would stop independent R&D of CXL controllers, with relevant personnel being reassigned to the Processing-in-Memory (PIM) field. Samsung Electronics only uses its self-developed CXL controllers for internal R&D team research.
