$Micron Tech(MU.US)
1. One earnings report saved half the market; the after-hours report was explosive. Storage stocks like $Roundhill Memory ETF(DRAM.US) and $Sandisk(SNDK.US) all rose, lifting the entire semiconductor supply chain. BUT note that the 'Magnificent Seven' are still down; 85% of the gross profit was taken by these 'shovel sellers'. So the giants were issuing bonds just to pave the way for others.
2. Trading Reflection:
1) Recently, I was fully invested, but in the wrong direction. I was positioned in the 'Magnificent Seven' for a long time with no gains, and the market's big shake-up a couple of days ago caused a significant pullback. This severely impacted my subsequent trading.
2) If I could have better controlled this non-core investment and avoided these losses, I would have bought the dip in storage/MU/DRAM. Otherwise, I really wouldn't have added to my position.
3) Micron's earnings report was truly the focus of the entire market. It was a great opportunity for zero-day options: you could say half the village's hope rested on it. My approach to watching the market this time was also wrong. There wasn't much to see pre-market; I should have watched near the close to see if there was any capital positioning, then taken a small gamble on zero-day options (just luck). After the report, I could have identified the direction and promptly hedged with the underlying stock or a 2X ETF.
4) As the saying goes, learning to hold cash and wait is crucial. You don't need many opportunities; just catching one is enough. The worst thing is to mess around before the opportunity arrives, and then be stuck in a bad position when it does, losing your composure.
5) You have to be able to take a hit, get back up quickly, and not let it affect your new judgments and analysis. Otherwise, muscle memory can easily be exploited by the market, leading you by the nose.
6) Although I didn't add to my position this time, and the plan was to wait for the earnings results and the pre-June-end adjustment, I did well by not touching my existing related stock positions!
