The non-ferrous metals sector is experiencing severe internal divergence. $TIANQI LITHIUM(09696.HK) rose slightly, showing signs of a rebound in the lithium sector. However, $US Antimony(UAMY.US) fell -10%, $Global X Copper Miners(COPX.US) dropped six points, $Alcoa(AA.US) also declined by five or six points, and $CHIFENG GOLD(06693.HK) dipped slightly. They are all bulk metals, so why is lithium rising while copper, aluminum, antimony, and gold are all falling? A strong US dollar and the breakdown in copper prices are the main reasons. Industrial metals are being hit by both weak demand and the strong dollar, while lithium's rise is an oversold rebound after falling for over a year. Their respective cycle positions are different, making it hard to expect them to move in sync in the short term.
