Iran refuses to halt nuclear enrichment activities in talks with the US
During talks held in Oman, Iran rejected US demands to stop its uranium enrichment activities or move them offshore, but Iranian officials expressed willingness to continue diplomatic efforts to avoid strikes. The talks were conducted indirectly through Omani mediators, with little progress made on core positions.
The US seeks to curb Iran's nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and its support for regional militias, while Iran insists on discussing only nuclear issues. This is the first meeting between the US and Iran since a 12-day conflict in June. Previous airstrikes, economic hardship, and regional provocations have heightened tensions between the two countries.
Despite the deadlock, both sides still plan to meet again, but analysts warn that differences remain significant and the situation is very fragile.
