Notes from a Beginner Learning U.S. Stocks 52

What suits you best is the best

Oracle was on fire today. First, congrats to those who made money. I didn't have any shares, just started following it, but it's always nice to see others profit.

When it comes to stock trading, I feel my abilities are limited—it's hard to go pro. The only non-giant I added to my portfolio, CRCL, is currently my only losing stock. Hahaha, I really don't know how to analyze or calculate. Plus, I just don't have enough time. I'm on a business trip today and feel exhausted. By evening, my brain is pretty much done processing any news.

For someone like me, the best approach is to buy leading stocks at low points, not chase highs. Today, I told a friend my UNH finally turned a profit, and they were surprised I held onto it for so long with such a high cost basis... I said I'm too busy to check often, so out of sight, out of mind... Not a great habit, but it's my reality. So, I'll stick to what works for me.

Among the leaders, only UNH is falling. Waiting for a dip to $63 to add 100 shares—just need to outperform Hong Kong insurance.

No good opportunities lately, so I'll wait.

For consumer stocks, I have P&G and Coca-Cola, waiting to add more. Johnson & Johnson kept rising after I missed buying at $148, so I'll wait for another chance below $150.

In healthcare, I have UnitedHealth and Eli Lilly—waiting to trim UnitedHealth and add Lilly. The others aren't as good as Lilly, so I'll ignore them for now.

What I really want to add are tech-related and broad-based ETFs, but they've been rising lately, so I won't chase.

Among my watchlist, PLTR looks the best. Missed buying at $148 by a hair, so waiting for the next chance. No rush.

Meanwhile, my much smaller domestic fund is a daily mood killer. Using DS to plan my allocation: 30% QDII (HK + Japan + UK + Vietnam—doing fine), 30% index funds (CSI 500/300—underweight), 30% mutual funds, 10% gold/silver. Currently holding too many fund types with not much capital. Not sure what to buy next... Bond funds are losing lately... Any suggestions for on-exchange products, folks?

Off to bed.
