That's right, for ordinary people, investing in classic indices is pretty much enough. It's too hard to get excess returns.

It's been almost a year since I opened the account, and I've learned a lot from the big brothers in the community.

My current holdings include a long-only all-weather experimental portfolio (with SPY, TLT, DBC, GLD, IEF, and later, I'll start dollar-cost averaging into ALLW when it's available. I also added a 03416 HSI covered call, which is on Interactive Brokers). The long-term stock holdings are in an active portfolio where I mostly buy on the left side and occasionally sell (MSFT, AAPL, GOOG, BRK, KO, JNJ. This part is on Futu). Then, I left a small amount on Longbridge to play with, trying to recover the losses from UnitedHealth. Currently, the options are doing great, but the base amount is too small to matter.

Well, the individual stock part performed the best, but the April drop was brutal—it made me sick. But now, it's doing well.

The bulk of the passive portfolio is very stable. The maximum drawdown in April was less than 4%, but the downside is that it hardly grows, especially since TLT is still underperforming. Well, that's bonds for you—just think of it as a 4.5% annual return.

UNH losses made me sick. No choice. I humorously cut losses and gave away some money earlier. Now, after two months of adjustments, I've got the cost basis down to 317. Hope the earnings report looks good. Please, don't drop anymore—I'm sad 😓.

Also, on Interactive Brokers, there's a 20-year bond with a 5.0x yield to maturity, $10,000.

That's it. A year of hard work. Learned this strategy, that portfolio. In the end, it's still worse than the S&P 500 fund I forgot about in my China Merchants Bank account (20%+ return). Or even worse than the A-share value dividend stocks/funds my mom bought (25%+). It really proves the saying: hard work makes you poor, lying flat makes you rich.
