Mediatek’s first ASIC AI chip project for a US hyperscale customer is progressing fairly well, CEO Rick Tsai said during its 1st quarter earnings call, adding the custom ASIC business is expected to see US$2 billion in revenue this year, double the prior estimate of $1 billion, media report. He said the project will scale to multiple billions of US dollars. He also raised his view of the total addressable market for custom ASICs to US$70-$80 billion by 2028, from a previous estimate $60-$70 billion.
