Are TSMC’s 2nm fabs going to use up all the power in Kaohsiung, south Taiwan? Environmental and political groups are asking TSMC to invest in more power for five 2nm fabs in the city, estimating their total electricity consumption will hit 11.2 billion kWh, roughly equal to all resident and business power consumption in Kaohsiung last year. When fabs planned for the Shalun Science Park (Tainan) are included, the estimate climbs to 20.1 billion kWh.
