METHANE LEAKS IN ANTARCTICA RAISE CLIMATE ALARM
Scientists have discovered dozens of new methane seeps beneath the Ross Sea in Antarctica, a sharp increase from the single known seep in 2011. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas—about 80 times more effective than CO₂ over 20 years—and these leaks could accelerate global warming. The seeps, likely triggered by climate-driven ice melt, may create a feedback loop, releasing more trapped gases and worsening climate change. Researchers warn the phenomenon could be widespread and call for urgent international study to track its impact. The copyright of this article belongs to the original author/organization.
