RENTS FALL FOR 25TH STRAIGHT MONTH

In August, rents dropped 2.2% year-over-year—the 25th consecutive annual decline—and 2.6% from the 2022 peak, to a median of $1,713 across major metros, according to Realtor. It also marked the first month-over-month dip since March 2025. Despite the drop, rents remain 17% above pre-pandemic levels. Falling prices are prompting renters to move for more space, savings, or new locations.
