TrendForce: Prices for data storage in AI data centers are going up, for hard disk drives (HDDs) and enterprise solid-state drives (eSSDs), with eSSD prices seen rising 5%-10% in the 4th quarter. The massive data generated by AI are straining global storage infrastructure, with HDDs in a severe shortage and delivery times now 52-weeks out. HDDs are cheaper and dominate data center storage. They are mainly used to store data that is not used often (cold data). HDD makers have not built enough factories to keep up with demand, so AI data center operators have turned to costlier SSDs, normally for frequently used data (hot data), are speedier, 30% more power efficient. $Sandisk(SNDK.US) $Micron Tech(MU.US) $HXSCL $SSNLF #SKhynix #Samsung #semiconductors
