Taiwan’s monthly exports topped South Korea’s for the first time ever in August as AI drives a semiconductor boom in Taipei, South Korean media report, blaming US tariffs for its performance. Taiwan’s exports in August hit US$58.5 billion, versus $58.4 billion for South Korea. Taiwan’s exports to the US soared 65.2% year-on-year to $19.6 billion, a record high, while South Korea’s shrank 12% to $8.7 billion due to US tariffs. Taiwan’s monthly exports have risen sharply this year from January’s $38.7 billion up to August’s all-time high $58.5 billion, due to strong AI-related demand.
