Google Refutes Claims of Major Gmail Security Alert

$Alphabet(GOOGL.US) $Alphabet - C(GOOG.US) Google has reassured users that Gmail’s security remains robust, following misleading reports in the media.
Cyber threats are already daunting enough; false alarms and exaggerated warnings only add unnecessary confusion. Last week, several outlets claimed Gmail had issued a major security alert affecting its 2.5 billion users. Google has now stepped in to clarify that such claims are entirely unfounded.
In a new post, Google stated clearly that it has never released any widespread security warning regarding Gmail, and its protective measures remain “strong and effective.” The company added that while phishing attempts continue to pose a serious risk, Gmail successfully blocks over 99.9% of malicious emails and phishing attacks before they ever reach users’ inboxes.
It seems the misunderstanding arose from some media misinterpreting recent data Google published on phishing trends, which was incorrectly portrayed as a blanket warning to all Gmail accounts. Google has since reached out directly to these media outlets, asking them to update their reports to reflect the statements made in its blog.
In the same post, Google encouraged users to adopt safer habits online—such as moving away from passwords towards security keys, and learning how to spot and report phishing emails. Combined with Gmail’s built-in protections, these practices add another layer of security for all users.
