BESSENT SEES STRONG CHANCE OF BIG SEPTEMBER RATE CUT

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said there’s a strong likelihood the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates by 0.5 percentage points next month. He noted that sharp downward revisions to nonfarm payrolls suggest the Fed could have lowered rates at its last two meetings. “That tells me there’s a very good chance of a 50 basis-point cut,” Bessent told Bloomberg TV, adding he’s hopeful for the September meeting.
