Only 3 of 7 semiconductor plants built in Japan in 2023 and 2024 have begun mass production as of April this year due to the slow recovery in demand for non-AI chips, Nikkei reports, noting Japan’s Renesas opted not to start mass production at its Kofu plant due to slow demand for power semiconductors used in EVs, while Sony, Rohm, Sanken Electric are holding off on mass production at new facilities.
