On Wednesday, German enterprise software giant SAP and OpenAI announced a partnership to launch a "German version of OpenAI" by 2026, specifically providing AI technology services for the German public sector. This collaboration will run on the Microsoft Azure platform through SAP's subsidiary Delos Cloud, ensuring data sovereignty and security compliance.
The project aims to help millions of public sector employees in the German government, administrative departments, and research institutions use AI technology safely and responsibly while meeting strict data sovereignty, security, and legal standards. To support this collaboration, SAP plans to expand the existing infrastructure of Delos Cloud in Germany to 4,000 GPUs for AI workloads.
This partnership directly supports Germany's national AI strategy goals. The German federal government's high-tech agenda aims to achieve AI-driven value creation reaching 10% of GDP by 2030. Meanwhile, the "Made for Germany" initiative has gained support from 61 leading companies and global investors, committing to invest over €631 billion.
The collaboration is expected to provide significant momentum for the digital transformation of the German public sector, helping government agencies improve service efficiency and ensuring the widespread adoption of AI technology aligns with Germany's trust and security values.
