Three months after their public fallout, Musk and Trump appeared together for the first time at the Charlie Kirk memorial event.
According to media reports, at the memorial service held on Sunday for Kirk, who was shot and killed, Musk and Trump were spotted sitting side by side and chatting happily. This scene occurred just before U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was about to take the stage. Television footage captured Musk approaching Trump and sitting down in the empty seat next to him, after which the two shook hands and engaged in enthusiastic conversation.
The relationship between the two had reached a freezing point in June of this year.
At that time, Musk "in a fit of anger" resigned from government-related positions and launched sharp criticisms of Trump on social media platforms. Musk hinted in a series of posts that Trump's involvement in the Epstein scandal might be deeper than the public knows. He wrote, "It's time to drop the real bombshell."
In response to Musk's public challenge, Trump did not back down and retaliated. He also threatened on social media that he might use national power to "crush" Musk's business interests. Trump wrote at the time, "I have always been surprised that Biden hasn't done this!"
This public dispute led many to believe that the political alliance between the two had completely broken down. However, at Sunday's Kirk memorial event, the two reconciled.
Afterward, Musk posted a photo with Trump on social media, captioned only "For Charlie," suggesting that this thawing was in memory of their mutual friend Kirk.
Kirk had previously expressed belief that Musk and the president would eventually reconcile. "I know both of them very well," Kirk said during a summer interview with Megyn Kelly. "I think they will reconcile at some point," he added, "I think they will be stronger together."
