According to reports, Rick Rieder, head of fixed income at asset management giant BlackRock, is rising in the ranks of candidates to "succeed Powell as the next Federal Reserve Chairman."
According to a government official, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent conducted a two-hour interview with Rieder in New York, discussing core topics including monetary policy, the structure of the Federal Reserve, and regulatory oversight.
A person familiar with Bessent's thoughts revealed that Bessent highly values Rieder's extensive market experience, his ability to lead large investment teams, his precise grasp of micro and macroeconomic dynamics, and his unique perspective in assessing economic conditions using a forward-looking framework.
So far, Bessent has completed discussions with four of the eleven publicly listed candidates for the Federal Reserve Chair position, and it is expected that the list will increase by one or two more candidates.
Additionally, reports on Thursday indicated that this week, Bessent also met with several candidates from the list nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump for the next Federal Reserve Chair, including former Federal Reserve Governor Laurence Lindsey, Kevin Warsh, and former St. Louis Fed President James Bullard
