Bill Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), has proposed new criminal referrals against Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, escalating the pressure from the Trump administration regarding Cook's alleged mortgage fraud. In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, this new referral involves a third property located in Massachusetts. Earlier this month, Cook was accused of fraudulently listing properties in Michigan and Georgia as her "primary residence" when obtaining a mortgage in 2021, a move that typically ensures more favorable loan terms. The latest referral states that Cook obtained a mortgage for a condominium in Cambridge, Massachusetts, claiming the property was a second home. Pulte noted that eight months later, Cook claimed to have received rental income of $15,000 to $50,000, referring to it as an investment property. (Bloomberg)
