Apple warns that new UK regulations will jeopardize user privacy and security, and hinder innovation

Apple warns that the upcoming mobile market reforms in the UK aimed at promoting competition may ultimately harm the interests of users and developers. An Apple spokesperson told the media, "We are concerned that such EU-style rules being implemented in the UK will harm users and developers," adding, "This approach will undermine the privacy and security protections that users expect, hinder our ability to innovate, and force us to provide technology to foreign competitors for free." The UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced in July that Apple and Google's Android system owner must enhance competition in the app distribution space. The agency also proposed labeling these two tech companies as having "strategic market status" due to their dominant positions in the mobile ecosystem. According to Kantar data, Google's Android system holds a 61% market share in the UK, while Apple's iOS system accounts for 38%. Google operates the Play Store and Chrome browser, while Apple runs the App Store and Safari browser. The CMA is expected to make a final decision on this matter in October
