Trump reveals: Meta's Louisiana data center will cost $50 billion

Trump revealed that Meta Platforms plans to invest $50 billion in Louisiana to establish a large data center named "Hyperion." He expressed shock at the project's cost and presented charts showing the scale of the data center. A Meta spokesperson declined to comment. The company is actively participating in the artificial intelligence race and has selected Pacific Investment Management Company and Blue Owl Capital Inc. to raise $29 billion in funding for the data center
According to Zhitong Finance APP, U.S. President Donald Trump stated during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday that Meta Platforms (META.US) plans to invest $50 billion to build a large data center in rural Louisiana. Trump expressed shock at the cost of the project.
"When they said they were going to build a $50 billion factory, I said, 'What kind of factory is this?'" Trump said while holding a chart that was reportedly given to him by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The chart overlaid the layout of the data center on a map of Manhattan to illustrate its massive scale. Trump remarked, "Seeing this, you understand why it costs $50 billion."
A Meta spokesperson declined to comment on Trump's remarks regarding the data center. The data center is referred to by Meta as "Hyperion." The social media giant is investing hundreds of billions of dollars to become a major player in the artificial intelligence (AI) race, and the company has previously only publicly stated that its investment in the data center would exceed $10 billion.
Trump stated that U.S. companies are now able to build large data centers simply because "we allow them to build their own power facilities."
Earlier this month, media reports indicated that Meta had selected Pacific Investment Management Company and Blue Owl Capital Inc. to lead a $29 billion fundraising effort for the Louisiana data center, marking the largest financing to date related to a specific AI data center
