Powell emphasizes: Policymakers must guard against the risk of sustained inflation caused by Trump tariffs
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell emphasized that policymakers must guard against the risk of sustained inflation resulting from President Trump's tariff measures.
He stated that the impact of tariffs on consumer prices is "now clearly visible," but it is reasonable to expect these effects to be relatively short-lived.
"However, the upward pressure on prices from tariffs could also trigger more persistent inflation dynamics, which is a risk that needs to be assessed and managed," Powell said.
"When our goals are in this state of tension, our policy framework requires us to seek a balance between the two aspects of our dual mandate," he added
