According to the Zhitong Finance APP, EssilorLuxottica SA, the world's largest eyewear manufacturer, announced on Monday that sales of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, launched in collaboration with Meta (META.US), have more than doubled year-on-year, helping the company's total sales in the first half of the year reach €14.02 billion (approximately $16.25 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.3%.
EssilorLuxottica's CEO Francesco Milleri and Deputy CEO Paul du Saillant stated in a joint statement: "We are leading the transformation of eyewear as the next-generation computing platform, where artificial intelligence, sensing technology, and data-rich healthcare infrastructure will converge to empower humanity and unlock our full potential. The success of Ray-Ban Meta, the launch of Oakley Meta Performance AI glasses, and the positive response to Nuance Audio are all significant milestones we have achieved in this new field."
EssilorLuxottica stated in its financial report that the new Oakley Meta smart glasses launched in June are the latest product line developed in collaboration with Meta. Media reports in June indicated that Meta and EssilorLuxottica plan to launch a Prada-branded smart glasses in the future.
EssilorLuxottica owns several well-known brands, including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear, and Persol.
According to an announcement made in September last year, Meta and EssilorLuxottica renewed a long-term cooperation agreement to "collaborate on the development of multiple generations of smart glasses products over the next decade."
Additionally, media reports in early July indicated that Facebook's parent company Meta acquired just under 3% of EssilorLuxottica's shares, valued at approximately €3 billion ($3.5 billion). Insiders revealed that Meta is considering additional investments, potentially gradually increasing its stake to around 5%, but related plans remain uncertain
