The project has previously been criticized by Trump and his allies as a "waste" and "luxurious." In recent weeks, Trump and other Republicans have intensified pressure on Federal Reserve Chairman Powell, questioning the rising renovation budget and criticizing Powell's statements about the construction details during his testimony in the Senate last month.
