According to CCTV International News, on July 17 local time, U.S. Republican Congressman Anna Paulina Luna stated on her social media platform that she has reported Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly "perjuring" in relation to the $2.5 billion renovation project at the Federal Reserve headquarters. Previously, Luna had publicly called for Powell's dismissal. Russell Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget at the White House, had previously harshly questioned Powell about the "luxurious $2.5 billion renovation project" of the Federal Reserve building, even comparing it to the Palace of Versailles in France. In response to Vought's accusations, the Federal Reserve rebutted, stating that this is the first comprehensive renovation of the headquarters built in the 1930s, which needs to address "issues of pollution and leaks that far exceed expectations." Powell also testified to the Senate in June that the Federal Reserve headquarters is "unsafe and not waterproof."
