On Thursday, July 3rd, U.S. Eastern Time, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin stated that President Trump’s 20% tariff on Vietnam will not be added to the existing 10% tariff. The 20% is a reciprocal tariff against Vietnam. He also said, "My understanding is that the trade agreement with Vietnam has been finalized in principle."
During Mnuchin's remarks, the major U.S. stock index S&P 500 rose nearly 0.9% during Thursday's midday session, approaching the intraday record set earlier in the session, poised to create a closing record for the second consecutive day.
The largest Vietnam ETF listed in the U.S., VanEck Vietnam ETF (VNM), maintained a rise of over 0.7%, nearing the intraday high set earlier in the session.
