A summary of major financial events from June 23 to June 29, all in Beijing time:
Key focus for next week: The 2025 Summer Davos will open in Tianjin, Jerome Powell's semiannual monetary policy testimony, the U.S. May PCE price index, NVIDIA's shareholder meeting, and multiple countries including the U.S., Germany, the U.K., Australia, and Japan will release June PMI.
In addition, China will announce the profit growth rate of industrial enterprises above designated size for May, Xiaomi's Yu7 will be released at the end of the month, and Apple's first original cinema release will premiere.
Jerome Powell's Semiannual Monetary Policy Testimony
On Tuesday (June 24), Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell will deliver his semiannual monetary policy testimony in the House of Representatives.
At that time, Powell may elaborate on the Federal Reserve's assessment of the current economic situation, including key areas such as employment and inflation.
In addition to closely monitoring clues regarding interest rates or inflation, traders will also be highly alert to any changes in the tone of policy independence and any hints regarding the Federal Reserve's long-term framework.
Analysts point out that historically, the "clarity" of the testimony itself serves as a trading signal; if Powell's wording is vague or very hawkish, it may trigger significant fluctuations in the stock market and declines in risk assets such as Bitcoin.
"Federal Reserve's Favorite" Inflation Data Released
On Friday (June 27), the U.S. will release the May PCE price index.
Currently, economists expect the U.S. May PCE price index to increase by 2.3% year-on-year, up 0.2 percentage points from last month's 2.1%; the core PCE price index is expected to increase by 2.6% year-on-year, accelerating by 0.1 percentage points from last month, indicating a moderate rise in inflation.
Analysts indicate that based on month-on-month expected values, the next three months will be the mildest in terms of growth in five years.
The previously released May CPI data continues to show a downward trend, indicating that tariffs have not yet affected the overall inflation level. Analysts believe this may be due to companies using existing inventory, leading to relatively stable prices, and expect the impact of tariffs on prices to become more apparent in the coming months.
On Thursday (June 26), the U.S. will release the final annualized quarter-on-quarter GDP for the first quarter.
The previously released revised value shows that due to consumer spending and imports dragging down, the U.S. economy contracted by 0.2% on an annualized basis in the first quarter, which was below expectations. This data was slightly revised up from the previously announced initial value (a contraction of 0.3%) but still indicates that the U.S. economy faced contraction at the beginning of the year
2025 Summer Davos Forum
Next Tuesday, the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, known as the "Summer Davos Forum," will be held in Tianjin, lasting until the 26th.
It is reported that this year's meeting will gather more than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries, including leaders from business, government, social organizations, international organizations, media, and academia, marking the highest attendance in recent years.
The agenda of the meeting will revolve around five themes, including "Interpreting the Global Economy," "China Outlook," "Industries in Transformation," "Investing in Humanity and the Earth," and "New Energy and Materials."
NVIDIA Shareholders Meeting
On Wednesday (June 25), NVIDIA will hold its shareholders meeting.
NVIDIA is committed to expanding its influence in the global artificial intelligence infrastructure sector. This month, the company announced plans to build an industrial AI cloud platform in Germany and designated Micron Technology as the first supplier of its new memory solution SOCAMM.
Recently, NVIDIA also officially announced a collaboration with Novo Nordisk to use AI in drug development and showcased a video compression tool for autonomous vehicles at the GTC conference in Paris.
Other Important Data, Meetings, and Events
- On Friday (June 27), the National Bureau of Statistics will release the profit growth rate of industrial enterprises above designated size for May.
Data released last month showed that from January to April, the profit of industrial enterprises above designated size grew by 1.4%, accelerating by 0.6 percentage points compared to January to March, continuing the trend of recovery.
Yu Weining, a statistician from the Industrial Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, interpreted that the profits of industrial enterprises above designated size have stabilized and recovered from January to April, demonstrating the strong resilience and shock resistance of China's industry. However, it should also be noted that there are still many uncertainties in the international environment, and factors such as insufficient demand and declining prices still exist, requiring continued consolidation of the foundation for the steady recovery of industrial enterprise benefits.
- Xiaomi Yu7 will be released at the end of the month.
On June 16, Xiaomi's Lei Jun posted on Weibo that the highly anticipated Xiaomi Yu7 will be released at the end of June. Many heavyweight new products will also be launched simultaneously, such as the second tablet equipped with the Xuanjie O1 chip: Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro.
Xiaomi Yu7 is the first SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) model of Xiaomi Auto, which has recently attracted widespread market attention. Previously, several industry insiders predicted that the sales of Xiaomi Yu7 would exceed those of Xiaomi SU7.
- Apple's first original film "F1" will premiere in theaters on June 27.
