Amazon adds $233 million investment in India to strengthen logistics infrastructure and technology upgrades
Amazon announced that it will invest over 20 billion rupees (approximately 233 million USD) in India by 2025 to expand and upgrade its operational infrastructure, develop new technologies to enhance its logistics fulfillment network, and improve delivery safety. This investment builds on its previous operational network and aims to enhance logistics speed and processing capacity while improving employee health and financial benefits
According to the Zhitong Finance APP, Amazon (AMZN.US) announced on Thursday that it will invest over 20 billion rupees (approximately $233 million) in India in 2025 to expand and upgrade its operational infrastructure, develop new technologies for its logistics fulfillment network, and enhance delivery safety guarantees.
The company added that this investment builds on its previous efforts to establish an operational network, which has already achieved delivery coverage for all serviceable postal code areas in India.
As an e-commerce giant competing with Walmart (WMT.US) subsidiary Flipkart and billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Retail in the Indian market, Amazon announced in June 2023 that it plans to increase its total investment in India to $26 billion by 2030, although it did not disclose specific funding allocation details.
This new investment will be used to initiate the construction of new sites and upgrade existing facilities within the fulfillment and delivery network to improve logistics speed and processing capacity. Additionally, Amazon plans to use technology to issue speed warnings to delivery personnel and ensure fair distribution of delivery routes.
The company stated that part of the funds will also be used to expand and improve employee health and financial welfare programs. In March of this year, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced that Amazon Web Services (AWS) would invest approximately $8.2 billion in the country
