The United States adjusts tariffs imposed on China

The United States adjusted the tariffs imposed on China based on the negotiation situation with China. According to the executive order issued on May 12, starting from midnight on May 14, 91% of the tariffs will be revoked, and 34% of the corresponding tariff measures will be modified, with 24% of the tariffs suspended for 90 days and 10% of the tariffs retained. In addition, the tariffs on small packages from China have been reduced, with the value-added tax rate on international mail lowered from 120% to 54%. China will make corresponding adjustments to relevant measures
According to the Ministry of Commerce, based on the executive order issued by the White House on May 12 to amend the equivalent tariff rates to reflect the discussions with the People's Republic of China, the U.S. side has revoked a total of 91% of the tariffs imposed on Chinese goods (including goods from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region) at 00:01 Eastern Time on May 14, according to Executive Order No. 14259 dated April 8, 2025, and Executive Order No. 14266 dated April 9, 2025. It has also amended the equivalent tariff measures of 34% imposed on Chinese goods (including goods from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region) under Executive Order No. 14257 dated April 2, 2025, with 24% of the tariffs suspended for 90 days, retaining the remaining 10%. Additionally, the U.S. side has lowered or revoked the tariffs on small packages from China (including small packages from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), reducing the international mail ad valorem tax rate from 120% to 54%, and revoking the measure that was scheduled to increase the specific tax from $100 to $200 per item starting June 1, 2025.
In light of the U.S. side's revocation, suspension, or adjustment of tariffs on China based on the consensus reached during the high-level economic and trade talks between China and the U.S., the Chinese side will correspondingly adjust relevant tariffs and non-tariff countermeasures against the U.S.
