Google enters Hollywood: Launches "100Zeros" film and television production plan targeting movie and series production

Google has launched a film production initiative called "100Zeros" to enter Hollywood, aiming to discover and fund large-scale film and television projects. The program collaborates with talent management company Range Media Partners, targeting both narrative films and unscripted programs. Google hopes to showcase its applications in technologies such as AI and 3D imaging through this project, while collaborating with the Hollywood creative community to promote creative expression
According to Zhitong Finance APP, American tech giant Google (GOOGL.US) has fully shifted its business development and revenue focus to the hub of the American media and entertainment industry—Hollywood. According to exclusive information cited by the media from informed sources, this tech giant has quietly launched a new film and television production plan called "100Zeros."
Informed sources revealed that this latest production plan is part of a long-term collaboration with talent management and production company Range Media Partners. Range Media has been involved in projects such as the 2024 Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown."
It is understood that the mission of Google's "100Zeros" project is to discover and identify large film and television projects that Google can fund or participate in producing, with the goal of potentially supporting narrative films and unscripted movies and television shows.
Last year, the initial version of the plan was involved in the marketing of the independently produced horror thriller "Cuckoo," with its logo appearing in the film's opening credits.
In April of this year, Google officially announced a collaboration with Range Media to launch a major film and television production project called "AI on Screen," commissioning the creation of short films exploring the deep intertwining relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. The first two films, "Sweetwater" and "Lucid," are expected to be released later this year in North America. These potential short films are expected to showcase Google's technologies such as AI, 3D imaging, and Immersive View through storytelling, enhancing brand cultural relevance without being limited to product placement.
A Google spokesperson stated in an email response: "Through our ongoing collaboration with Range, we hope to work collaboratively with the Hollywood creative community in a prudent, thoughtful, and productive manner, continuing to responsibly support creative expression and explore the possibilities of new technologies through storytelling."
The main focus of 100Zeros is not on hard product placements or embedded advertising, although this large-scale plan is expected to help promote Google's new technology products and services.
It is worth noting that 100Zeros does not intend to use YouTube as its primary distribution and marketing platform, nor does it aim to restart or replicate YouTube's previous attempts at original programming. One of the core goals of this new plan is to sell a portion of the participation rights in film and television production projects to traditional studios.
Some TMT analysts have stated that 100Zeros is more like a "brand/investment studio" for Google to promote its technology through film content and deepen collaboration with the creative industry, serving as a "brand investment + technology showcase" platform. Its projects may even be sold to traditional studios or streaming services, rather than creating a proprietary subscription video streaming platform. This is fundamentally different from Apple's Apple TV+ business model, which focuses on self-produced content and direct-to-consumer (DTC) distribution. Apple TV+ is a subscription streaming service where Apple funds the production and exclusively launches original series and films, directly targeting consumers through streaming
