Tesla's all-electric semi-truck will begin mass production in 2026

Tesla announced that its all-electric Class 8 semi-truck will begin mass production at its Nevada Gigafactory in 2026. Although the truck was not discussed in detail during the conference call, the company stated that it is still progressing as planned. Tesla executives mentioned that the first batch of semi-trucks is expected to roll off the production line by the end of 2025, with increased production starting in early 2026. The truck has a range of up to 500 miles, a payload capacity of 81,000 pounds, and an initial pricing of $150,000 for the 300-mile version and $180,000 for the 500-mile version
According to the Zhitong Finance APP, Tesla (TSLA.US) stated that its all-electric Class 8 semi-truck will begin full production at its Nevada Gigafactory in 2026. Tesla CEO Elon Musk and other executives did not discuss the semi-truck during the conference call, but the company indicated in its first-quarter earnings report that the semi-truck is still on track for "mass production next year."
Tesla executives mentioned in January that the semi-truck could start production by the end of 2025 and begin mass production sometime in 2026. Travis Axelrod, Tesla's head of investor relations, stated during a conference call with analysts in January: "We just topped off the roof walls of the semi-truck factory in Reno last week. We are preparing for the mechanical installation of all equipment in the coming months. The first products designed for high-volume semi-trucks will go into production by the end of 2025, with increased output starting in early 2026."
Musk first discussed the semi-truck in 2017, with expectations for mass production to begin in 2019. Tesla positions the semi-truck as a vehicle with a range of up to 500 miles on a full charge and a payload capacity of 80,000 pounds. In 2017, the initial pricing for the semi-truck was set at $150,000 for the 300-mile version and $180,000 for the 500-mile version.
Tesla ultimately launched the semi-truck in December 2022, but mass production of this electric tractor has been delayed multiple times over the past three years. Approximately 200 semi-trucks have been delivered to customers such as PepsiCo. According to a recent report from Electrek, mass production of the semi-truck may be delayed by another 28 months and face significant price increases
