For the first time this year! The manager of the "Champion Fund" steps into the new fund "Jianghu"

According to statistics from Eastmoney, at least 25 new funds will begin subscription next week, with 19 of them being issued on April 21. Index funds occupy 16 seats, including 4 enhanced index funds. The mixed equity fund launched by Morgan Stanley is the most noteworthy, as fund manager Lei Zhiyong previously managed last year's "champion fund," but has performed poorly this year. Lei Zhiyong holds a master's degree in computer science and previously worked at China Mobile before transitioning to the financial industry
"With the gentle breeze in the forest and the clear rain in the valley." After the Grain Rain, summer is approaching, and the warm wind has also blown into the public fund market.
According to the current statistics from Eastmoney, at least 25 new funds will start subscription next week (April 21 to 25), among which 19 will be issued on Monday (April 21).
Index funds still dominate, occupying 16 seats. Among them, 4 new funds are targeting the same strategy—index enhancement.
However, the selection of other actively managed funds is also quite rich.
A Variety of Product Types
Among the 25 funds to be issued next week, although index funds occupy 16 seats, they are still the absolute majority, but other types of products are also quite abundant.
Specifically, next week there will be 3 mixed equity funds and 3 bond funds issued, as well as 1 equity fund and 1 FOF, and a long-awaited REIT will also be issued.
In terms of index funds, in addition to passive tracking strategies, there are also 4 index enhancement funds that are worth noting.
As of April 4, a total of 32 index enhancement products have been successfully established this year, with a total issuance scale of 17.088 billion yuan, nearly ten times the scale of 1.8 billion yuan in the same period last year, indicating an unprecedented enthusiasm for index enhancement.
2024 "Champion Fund" Manager Takes Action Again
Among them, the most noteworthy is the mixed equity fund launched by Morgan Stanley Fund, the Morgan Stanley Prosperity Select Mixed Fund.
The fund manager of this fund—Lei Zhiyong—is the manager of last year's "Champion Fund," the Morgan Stanley Digital Economy Mixed A.
In 2024, Morgan Stanley Digital Economy Mixed A ranked first among public funds with a return rate of 69.23%, far exceeding the second place by nearly 20 percentage points.
However, Lei Zhiyong's performance can be described as "bold and daring." Since the beginning of 2025, the performance of this fund has not been very ideal. Investors may need to pay more attention to its stability.
The other fund he manages, the Morgan Stanley Innovation Fund, once heavily invested in the military industry, performed poorly last year but has turned around this year, ranking among the top.
Lei Zhiyong holds a master's degree in computer software and theory from Peking University and worked at China Mobile for 6 years before crossing over to the financial sector, serving as a telecommunications industry researcher at Dongguan Securities Research Institute and a product manager at Southern Fund.
In October 2014, Lei Zhiyong joined Morgan Stanley Fund.
His academic and professional background in the technology field may help him in judging trends in the technology industry. The funds he currently manages also focus on technology, digital economy, and other related fields
"Private Returns to Public" Machine Learning Expert
As one of the joint public funds with a long history in the industry, Everbright Pramerica is held by Everbright Securities and Prudential Financial, Inc. with 55% and 45% of the shares, respectively.
At the same time, Everbright Pramerica is also one of the earliest public funds to establish a quantitative investment platform in China. In recent years, it has begun to explore distinctive products in the equity investment field, attempting to break through the pattern of single reliance on fixed income business.
This time, the fund has launched an enhanced index product - Everbright Pramerica CSI 300 Enhanced Index, and has appointed Zhu Jiantao, the current deputy team leader of the quantitative investment team at the equity management headquarters, to manage it.
Zhu Jiantao has relatively rich experience in the quantitative field, but investors should also note that his career has been quite active, moving from analyst roles to private equity funds, and then back to the public fund industry.
In 2008, he joined Huabao Trust, and after two job changes, he served as a senior analyst in financial engineering at Haitong Securities and as the chief analyst in financial engineering at Dongfang Securities.
In June 2022, Zhu Jiantao joined Hainan Evolution Private Equity, and after a brief period of one year and two months, he joined Everbright Pramerica.
In terms of quantitative strategies, Zhu Jiantao and his team were among the first to introduce machine learning into investment, and he has stated: "Once the quantitative model is officially operational, we rarely make subjective interventions manually; decision-making and trading are basically determined by the model."
Currently, the funds he manages mainly include enhanced index and actively biased equity, and from the perspective of the past year, they are still in a relatively leading position.
