Trump talks about Musk: He is doing great, but has been treated "unfairly"

However, Trump also emphasized that he does not rely on this Tesla CEO
Trump praises Musk for "doing a great job," while emphasizing that he does not rely on the Tesla CEO. Democratic lawmakers are demanding that Musk end his government role by May 30.
On Thursday, Trump spoke to reporters during a meeting with cabinet members, giving high praise to Musk. "Musk is doing a fantastic job," Trump said, "I don't care. Other than the fact that I happen to like him, I don't need him to do anything. This guy is doing a fantastic job."
Trump also claimed that Musk has "not been treated fairly," suggesting that Democrats are targeting the billionaire. Protests have occurred in society, and there have even been violent attacks against Tesla dealerships. After the defeat of a Republican candidate in the Wisconsin Supreme Court last week, the Tesla billionaire has maintained a lower profile.
Democrats Pressure: Musk Must Leave by End of May
Meanwhile, a group of Democratic lawmakers is pressuring the White House to demand that Musk end his government role as soon as possible.
According to media reports, 77 Democrats led by Texas Representative Greg Casar have written to the president, demanding that the White House ensure Musk completes his unprecedented government role by May 30, citing legal reasons that he must resign by then.
The letter states:
During his brief government tenure, Musk has caused significant harm to American workers. Musk's reckless destruction of government agencies has led to various issues with social security.
Democrats also pointed out that Musk's SpaceX winning billions of dollars in contracts this month could pose a conflict of interest, stating that they "demand you stop ignoring legal and ethical rules, authorizing an unelected billionaire."
DOGE Progress and Questions: Savings or Exaggeration?
In February, after weeks of court chaos and officials avoiding questions, the Trump administration confirmed that Musk is considered a "special government employee," a temporary position that allows him to avoid certain disclosures required of government personnel. Additionally, media reports indicate that a little-known executive, Amy Gleason, is the actual head of the U.S. DOGE service agency.
Musk himself stated in an interview last month that he believes most of the work for DOGE will be completed by the end of May:
I think we will complete most of the work needed to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion within that timeframe.
According to DOGE data, it has helped the government save about $150 billion so far, although this figure has been found to potentially be exaggerated. Additionally, reports indicate that the Government Accountability Office is auditing DOGE due to its extensive access to sensitive government data from agencies like the Social Security Administration.
As the May 30 deadline approaches, how Trump balances the relationship between Musk and government officials has become one of the market's focal points
