Tang Chengpei, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, stated at the China Development Forum 2025 annual meeting on the 23rd that China's aging population holds unique development opportunities. The elderly consumption market is vast, and the potential for the silver economy is enormous. It is expected that by 2035, the proportion of the silver economy in GDP will rise from 6% to 9%. Tang Chengpei introduced that by the end of last year, the population aged 60 and above in China was 310 million, and the population aged 65 and above was 220 million, accounting for 22% and 15.6% respectively, indicating that the country has entered a moderately aging stage, which is one of the prominent characteristics of changes in China's population structure.
