During the afternoon trading session, an investor purchased over 300,000 options contracts, betting that Nvidia's stock price would drop to $115 before March 7—a 12% decline from the previous day's closing price. Bloomberg data shows that this trade pushed the volume of Nvidia's put options to more than double the average level of the past 20 days.
In response, Chris Murphy, co-head of derivatives strategy at Susquehanna International Group, stated, "This put option buyer's trade covers the time window of Trump's congressional speech next week and the release of non-farm payroll data."
