JD.com enters the takeaway market with 0 commission, Meituan once dropped 6%, JD LOGISTICS surged 5%

Meituan's response came late at night on February 11, when Meituan announced new progress on "cancelling the deduction of fees for riders exceeding the time limit."
JD.com enters the food delivery market, and Meituan's stock price fell sharply in early trading, dropping over 6% at one point. Meanwhile, JD.com's Hong Kong stock is currently up about 1%, and JD Logistics surged by 6% at one point.
After the close of the Hong Kong stock market on February 11, JD.com's official WeChat account, JD Black Board, announced that JD.com Food Delivery has officially launched the recruitment of "Quality Dine-in Restaurant Merchants," with merchants who join before May 1, 2025, exempt from commission fees for the entire year.
It is reported that the commission rates for mainstream food delivery platforms can reach as high as 10%, 20%, or even higher per order.
It is worth mentioning that JD.com's US stock fell 3.2% overnight, as the market may be concerned about the intense competition in the food delivery industry.
Through the JD app, it can be seen that JD Food Delivery's delivery method is Dada Instant Delivery, which is the local on-demand delivery platform of Dada Group (DADA.US), a subsidiary of JD.com. This is also a key factor that allows JD.com to directly enter the food delivery market.
In response, Meituan announced new progress on "cancelling rider overtime deductions" late at night on February 11, stating that since December of last year, it has been observing experiments in some cities in East China to "cancel overtime deductions for crowd-sourced riders." During this period, local crowd-sourced riders' overtime situations could be exempted. The results showed that there were relatively more overtime situations during holidays and long-distance orders, which affected the experience of some consumers. At the same time, in the observed areas, the overtime rate of new riders was significantly higher than that of experienced riders. Meituan stated that it has made internal rule improvements based on the discussion results, and specific plans will be gradually announced to the public in the near future
